Laboratory and Computer Work


Program for computer work:

Objective: This course aims at familiarizing students with algorithms and numerical analysis using a typical scientific programming language (Fortran 90), through sessions which are practical and organized in a computer room. They consist of the numerical solution of problems from various fields of physics, introducing different techniques for the numerical solution of differential equations and Monte-Carlo methods.

Numerical projects list:

- monte-Carlo evaluation of integrals

- random walks

- dynamical systems (Henon attractor, logistic equation)

- numerical resolution of differential equations (Euler, Cromer, Verlet methods) applied to planetary motion

- numerical solutions of the time independent Schrödinger equation

- electric field probability distribution in plasmas
